Book Review: The Genie Within by Harry W. Carpenter
I have kindleunlimited, basically a book service through Amazon that allows you to borrow books in that kindleunlimited library. Some books are quite good, some not worth the eprint they’re printed on, and some books I don’t even bother to check out because of the title.
I had passed over, The Genie Within, a bunch of times because I thought the title sounded too fluffy. I mean, come on, it just sounds a little too new age, wavy gravy, for me. Well, I don’t know what made me change my mind, oh yeah, the fact that I could get it for free and return it if I didn’t like it. Did I like it? Oh yes I did.
The basic premise of the book is the communication between the conscious and subconscious mind. Ever since I started dieting, I became convinced that dieting is mostly mental and not so much physical. The creation of good habits to replace bad habits was always on my mind.
This book basically teaches you how to communicate and unleash the power of your subconscious mind. It teaches you how to enter into the Alpha state, allowing your conscious mind to chill and let you plant ideas into your subconscious mind.
From previous books and personal experience, I knew the power of creating habits and letting the subconscious mind do some of the heavy lifting. I credit the subconscious mind as the reason for my dieting and exercise success. The Genie Within will help you program your subconscious mind and let it do all the heavy lifting on a number of topics.
Since I was already deep into this topic of the subconscious, I thought the book would be a waste for me, but I found a lot of interesting new information, but the best part is its pretty easy to explain the concept to friends now.
Another benefit is the ability, with some practice, to enter a deep relaxed state, the alpha state, almost at will. I went ahead and bought the cd that went along with this book and I used it everyday until certain triggers, words, etc would work easily. I’ll tell you one, in lesson 2, Harry teaches you how to go into the Alpha state, which is very easy once you practice a few days, but the thing that was kind of cool is during the alpha state meditation he said, that whenever you touch your forefinger to your thumb you’ll feel relaxed and calm. Now, I don’t buy into things like that but I’ll be damned when I do it now, I do feel relaxed, almost electrically calm, and now I’m writing my own “script” to add other triggers that would be useful to me.
Anyway, I didn’t do the book justice in this review, but definitely read it, buy the cd/mp3 with it, and practice it, you’ll be amazed at how communicating with the subconscious mind is possible and beneficial.
