Chia Pudding

Cha, cha, cha, chia.  Yes that annoying bit of pottery that grows uses a superfood as it’s base.  I think that might be the reason why it took me forever to try chia seeds.  I’ve read all about them, knew they were healthy for me, and knew that they were a superfood, but for some reason thinking of them as the pottery that grows was just kinda disgusting to me, at least when I thought about eating them.

I am a brave healthy eater now and I’m not going to let some pottery that grows defeat me.  Also I love puddings, so, I thought I would give this a try because of that whole, umm, brave healthy eater thing.

I bought a big bag of chia seeds and promptly, umm, put it in a cabinet and prayed that I would forget about them.  I did just that, I forgot about them for a month, whew, avoided that bullet.  As I kept looking up healthy foods that damn chia seed kept popping up in articles.  It couldn’t be avoided any longer, I had to eat some chia seeds so I could throw the damn things out and never eat them again.

I went to youtube, looked up some chia seed pudding recipes, and decided to give it a try.  Here’s what I did:

Ingredients:
2 Tablespoons of Chia Seeds
1/2 Cup of Coconut Almond Milk
1 Tablespoon of sugar (shut up, I know sugar is bad for you, but I needed something to make the chia seed go down)

I mixed it all together in a small tupperware and let it sit in the fridge for a day.  Here’s a thing about these disgusting little seeds, when you add moisture, they release a gel, doesn’t that sound attractive, anyway, it’s this gel that turns it into a pudding type texture.

24 hours pass and guess what, it looks like pudding with black specs in it.  The taste test, it was quite good, once you get over the god awful look of something that might appear in the space ship of some ugly ass alien, it was quite good.  It tasted like tapioca pudding.  The coconut almond milk and sugar basically made it taste like sweet coconut.

Health wise it has protein, fiber, and all that sort of good stuff.  Yeah, it’s good for you, it secretes a gel, and looks like something an ugly ass alien would eat, but it actually was pretty good.  A few tips though, after buying a big bag of the ugly, I found out they have white chia seeds, this would essentially make it look and taste like tapioca pudding.

There’s my adventure with chia, I actually like the disgusting little thing, and now can’t throw out the bag.  Instead I’ll be looking to tweak the recipes and finding other ways to use them.  Until then, be brave, eat healthy, it’s not really that bad.
